Varsity Soccer · Varsity Soccer Finishes 4th in State

After falling to the defending champions Calvary Christian (Bellefontaine) 2-1 the day before, the Liberty Christian Eagles looked to end their season with a win in the 3rd-place match of the 2018 Ohio Christian School Athletic Association soccer tournament. The Eagles faced Dominion Academy (Dayton) and the game was even from the start. Both sides had chances to take the lead and Dominion sneaked one past Liberty goalie Dylan Smith to take a 1-0 lead midway through the first half. A few minutes before halftime, Ohio leading scorer Trevor DeMarco tallied his 56th goal of the season by curling one past 2 Dominion defenders and their keeper to tie the game at 1. The score would remain 1-1 through the remainder of regulation and overtime, as both teams were unable to capitalize on quality chances and Dylan Smith made some clutch saves for the Eagles. It took 6 rounds of penalty kicks for Dominion to come away with 4-3 victory. Liberty kept their heads held high as it was the conclusion of a tremendously successful season where the Eagles finished with a 14W-3L-1T record.
